About DeviceFixCosts
DeviceFixCosts exists because repair pricing is one of the last consumer markets where walking in uninformed is still expensive. Cars have pricing guides, homes have comparables, flights have aggregators — but a cracked screen or a dead logic board is still quoted one customer at a time, behind a counter, under time pressure. We publish the ranges so the conversation starts from evidence.
The site is price journalism, not a marketplace. We do not sell repairs, take commissions on jobs, rank shops, or publish reviews. This site does not currently serve third-party advertising; a workbook edition of the tables and worksheets is planned at $19 for readers who want the method on paper. Our launch scope is laptops and computers, plus iPhone screen and battery pricing; categories are added only when published, attributable price sources exist for them — which is why some pages on this site explain a price's structure instead of quoting a number we cannot verify.
Every figure carries a source and a checked date; the method is published in full on the methodology page; and errors are corrected under a stated policy. We are published by the team behind an independent repair shop in South Pasadena, CA — disclosed in the footer of every page, because a pricing guide that hides its publisher's interest would fail its own standard. That interest is fenced by method: our shop never appears in a ranking, never supplies a 'national average', and carries no rating anywhere on this site. Judge the work by its sources — that is what they are there for.
